AC Motorsport unveils Michelotto Gruppo 4 Tributo, a modern Ferrari 308 tribute

The Italian firm's new sports car pairs a 380 hp naturally aspirated V8 with a dog-leg manual and a 950 kg kerb weight, but pricing and launch timing are unconfirmed.

Italian brand AC Motorsport has revealed the Michelotto Gruppo 4 Tributo, a new sports car built as a modern tribute to the Ferrari 308 and developed with engineering and racing firm Michelotto. The car was unveiled with a naturally aspirated 3.4-litre V8, a dog-leg manual gearbox and a kerb weight of 950 kg, though AC Motorsport has not announced when it will go on sale or what it will cost.

A new car, not a restomod

The Gruppo 4 Tributo looks like a restomodded 308, but it is a new car built around a custom tubular chassis with lightweight composite panels. Its overall shape and footprint closely match the original, with a low nose, a blacked-out grille, horizontal daytime running lights and pop-up headlights. Gills and vents on the hood and front quarter panels echo the 308, while flared fenders give the tribute a more aggressive stance.

Along the sides there are prominent rocker panels, a large intake behind the doors and star-shaped wheels wrapped in Pirelli tyres. The rear features a large clamshell, black grilles, dual exhausts, an exposed carbon fibre diffuser and four circular taillights.

AC Motorsport was founded two years ago by Francesco Calzavara, who previously worked at Michelotto. The Gruppo 4 name references the Group 4 specification Ferrari 308 GTB rally cars that Michelotto built and raced in the World Rally Championship.

Powertrain and weight

The engine is a naturally aspirated 3.4-litre V8 producing 380 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, paired exclusively with a dog-leg manual transmission. Those outputs are modest by modern exotic-car standards, but the 950 kg (2,094 lb) kerb weight is the headline figure: it is 140 kg lighter than the original 308.

AC Motorsport has positioned the car around a pure driving experience rather than outright performance. The combination of a light body, a naturally aspirated V8 and a manual gearbox points to a priority on response and engagement over raw acceleration, which is where the weight saving matters most.

AC Motorsport has not published a 0-100 km/h time or a top speed for the Gruppo 4 Tributo.

Interior and equipment

The cabin of the prototype is simple and, in the source's assessment, somewhat at odds with the exterior design. It has a flat carbon fibre dashboard, a large screen in front of the driver and a bank of physical switches and dials across the centre. Other features include a three-spoke steering wheel, a metal gated shifter and carbon fibre racing seats.

What is still unknown

AC Motorsport has not said when the Gruppo 4 Tributo will go on sale, how much it will cost, how many will be built or which markets will receive it. Performance figures beyond power, torque and weight have also not been released.

Luxeed confirmed for Australia in Q2 2027, led by LLounge people mover

Chery's new luxury brand will launch with a large EREV people mover, with the Stormax SUV to follow and pricing still unannounced.

Luxeed will arrive in Australia in the second quarter of 2027, Chery has confirmed, with the LLounge people mover as its first model and the Stormax electric SUV to follow.

Shawn Xu, CEO of Omoda & Jaecoo International, confirmed the plans to local media at Luxeed's global launch in Wuhu, China, on October 21.

What Luxeed will bring to Australia

The LLounge is the export version of China's Luxeed V9. In Chinese specification it measures 5359mm long and 2009mm wide with a 3250mm wheelbase, making it 204mm longer than a Kia Carnival and with 160mm more between its axles.

Chinese V9s have seven seats in a 2+2+3 layout and a range-extended electric (EREV) powertrain, in which a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine acts as a generator for a 53.4kWh battery while electric motors drive the wheels. Rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions are offered there.

Luxeed claims up to 305km of electric-only range and 1320km with a full battery and fuel tank for the rear-drive model, falling to 285km and 1230km for all-wheel drive versions. Those are Chinese CLTC test-cycle figures, not Australian-certified ranges, and cannot be directly compared with WLTP figures quoted for many local EVs.

Equipment and positioning

The people mover features dual-chamber air suspension, adaptive dampers and rear-wheel steering with up to seven degrees of movement. Rear-seat comfort is a priority, with second-row reclining captain's chairs with massage, powered leg rests and separate electric footrests, plus Nappa leather upholstery and a 33-speaker sound system.

Australian pricing and final specifications for Luxeed remain unannounced. The vehicles shown overseas put the brand into territory already occupied by Chinese luxury newcomers Denza and Zeekr.

Stormax SUV timing and the wider Chery expansion

A local arrival date for the Stormax electric SUV has yet to be announced.

Luxeed's confirmation comes just days after Chery confirmed another premium brand, Exlantix, for a local launch. Luxeed and Exlantix join Freelander, iCaur and Jetour on the list of Chery Group brands preparing to enter Australia, with Lepas due before the end of the year, alongside the existing Chery and Omoda Jaecoo brands.

What buyers still need to know

Two questions matter most for anyone considering a Luxeed: how much it will cost and when the SUV will reach Australia. Neither has been answered.

The LLounge's EREV powertrain would give it a different proposition from the pure-electric SUVs and people movers already on sale locally, because the petrol generator removes the need to plan around charging stops on long trips. That could appeal to buyers who want electric running for daily use without the range anxiety of a battery-only vehicle. But the CLTC range figures quoted for China cannot be read as Australian range, and the final local specifications and pricing will determine whether the brand genuinely competes with Denza and Zeekr or simply undercuts them.
