Brabus builds a 888 hp G-Class pickup limited to 10 units

The P 900 Rocket Edition turns the Mercedes G 63 into a two-seat road-focused truck with 24-inch wheels and a €711,718 price tag.

Brabus has revealed the P 900 Rocket Edition, a heavily modified Mercedes-Benz G-Class that has been converted into a pickup and tuned to produce 888 horsepower. Production will be capped at just 10 units, with the example shown priced at €711,718 (about $796,805) before personalisation options.

A G-Class reworked for pavement

Brabus describes the P 900 Rocket Edition as a road-focused supercar, and the modifications back that up: aftermarket coilovers drop the ride height by 1.8 inches compared with a standard G-Class, and the truck rides on 24-inch black-spoke wheels with carbon fibre aero trim. The changes clearly suit smooth asphalt more than gravel tracks.

The pickup conversion is not a simple bed chop. Brabus engineered a new steel bulkhead behind the rear seats with a heated rear window, formed the load floor and tailgate from metal, and made the side panels from lightweight carbon fibre. Brabus has not published a cargo capacity figure for the bed.

Body and interior changes

The exterior has been extensively reworked with a new front bumper featuring enlarged air intakes and carbon fibre accents, a black Brabus grille with an illuminated emblem and glowing shroud, a new hood, and carbon fibre flared wheel arches. There are also new side steps, tailpipes that glow red, and a matte black steel sports bar over the bed.

Inside, the P 900 gets new leather and genuine Alcantara with red quilted stitching, plus red-finished door handles, air vents and speaker grilles. Brabus has added carbon fibre features, modified the doors to open up to 90 degrees, and fitted a new steering wheel.

Engine and performance

The G 63's twin-turbocharged V8 is retained but bored out from 4.0 litres to 4.4 litres, with cylinder bores enlarged to 84 mm (3.3 inches). Brabus also fits forged pistons, a custom billet crankshaft, two larger turbochargers running at 20 psi, an upgraded fuel system, new downpipes and a stainless steel exhaust.

With a tuned ECU, the engine produces 888 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 922 lb-ft (1,250 Nm) at 2,900 rpm, although torque is capped at 774 lb-ft (1,050 Nm) to protect the transmission. Brabus quotes a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time of 3.7 seconds, and no curb weight has been listed.

Price, availability and what is still unknown

The P 900 Rocket Edition is limited to 10 units worldwide. The pictured example carries a price of €711,718 (about $796,805), though Brabus says prices will vary significantly depending on personalisation options.

Brabus has not announced an on-sale date or specified which markets will receive the 10 trucks. Australian availability and local pricing have not been confirmed.

2027 Mazda CX-5 gains Google Gemini AI and standard AWD, priced from $31,485

Every 2027 CX-5 now gets Google's Gemini assistant and all-wheel drive as standard, with the range topping out at $40,935 for the S Premium Plus.

Mazda has updated the CX-5 for the 2027 model year, adding Google's Gemini AI assistant to the infotainment system across every trim and making all-wheel drive standard throughout the range. The base 2.5 S Select starts at $31,485 including delivery, while the top S Premium Plus trim reaches $40,935.

The changes are software and equipment updates rather than a redesign: the CX-5's exterior is largely unchanged for 2027. Mazda says the Gemini integration lets drivers ask the in-car assistant to perform the same tasks they would ask a Google-enabled phone, while keeping their attention on the road.

What the Gemini update adds

The headline change for 2027 is the Gemini AI assistant, which arrives on all CX-5 versions through updated infotainment software. It is the kind of feature that may not sway every buyer, but it keeps the CX-5 competitive on cabin technology against rivals such as the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V.

Standard safety equipment across the range includes radar cruise control, speed-limit and traffic-sign recognition, rear brake and cross-traffic assistance, blind-spot monitoring and a driver attention monitor.

Powertrain and trim walk

The CX-5 continues with Mazda's 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, producing 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque, paired exclusively with a six-speed automatic transmission. It runs on regular 87-octane fuel.

Pricing starts at $31,485 with delivery for the 2.5 S Select. The S Preferred adds 19-inch wheels, while the Premium and Premium Plus trims bring luxury features including leather seats and a power liftgate. The S Premium Plus, the top trim, is priced from $40,935.

Availability and the hybrid question

Mazda says the updated CX-5 is available at dealers now. The sources do not specify which markets beyond the US pricing quoted will receive the 2027 update, and no Australian pricing or launch timing has been announced.

Buyers wanting a hybrid with a Mazda badge are pointed toward the CX-50, which shares its hybrid setup with the Toyota RAV4 hybrid. That matters because the RAV4 hybrid is all-new this year, giving Toyota a fresher competitor in the same size class.

The CX-5's appeal has always rested on driving manners rather than raw power or electrification, and the 2027 update does nothing to change that formula. For buyers who want a reasonably affordable crossover that is enjoyable on the school run, the CX-5 remains a straightforward choice, now with better cabin tech and all-weather traction as standard.
