Ford has priced its Fathom electric pickup from $29,945, making it the first model on the company's new Universal EV platform and one of the cheapest electric trucks announced for the US market. The four-door compact truck, expected to be similar in size to the Maverick, will be fully revealed by the end of this year, with deliveries beginning in late 2027.
Demand is already running hot. Official pre-orders do not open until early 2027, but Ford is now taking names on a separate pre-order invite list that will supposedly put early supporters in line for the first wave of production trucks.
The Fathom enters a thin segment. Compact trucks are scarce, and the ones on sale tend to be gas-powered. Slate's small electric pickup is the closest comparison on price and footprint, though Slate's no-frills approach differs from Ford's promise of a long list of standard equipment at a sub-$30,000 starting point.

Standard kit before the specs
Ford has published a long list of features while keeping the fundamentals vague. The Fathom will have bidirectional charging, so it can power tools or camping gear plugged into it. Inside, a large touchscreen runs Apple CarPlay, Android Auto or Ford's built-in navigation, which uses Apple Maps. That same mapping data feeds Ford's BlueCruise hands-free driving system, which the company is developing across its lineup. BlueCruise will be fitted to every Fathom but will cost extra to activate, likely through a subscription. A digital key and the Ford app remote control come standard.
Ford claims the four-door cabin has more passenger room than a Toyota RAV4, though no measurements or interior photos have been released.

The two-stage ordering process is the unusual part. Buyers who join the invite list now are effectively queueing for the chance to queue, with Ford rewarding early supporters with the first wave of production trucks once official pre-orders open in 2027. For a truck pitched on affordability, the subscription-based driver assistance could quietly erode that headline price over ownership, a trade-off buyers will weigh against the standard equipment list.

Timeline
The full reveal is due by the end of this year. Pre-orders open in early 2027, and deliveries begin in late 2027 as a 2028 model.
